How to describe this Northern Lights season in Rovaniemi using just one or two words? Cloudy – extremely cloudy. It seems that Rovaniemi is cursed this winter, and all the clouds in the world have decided to have regular meetings in this area. But we never give up! We always try to maximise the chances for our guests to enjoy the magic of the Aurora Borealis.
Honestly, most of the tour operators in Lapland have been struggling with providing guests with their dream experience of seeing the Auroras. Yes, the weather was and still is a very tough opponent in our mission to show the Northern Lights to as many people as possible. That’s why we think out of the box and try to find a solution.
How do we increase your chances to see the Northern Lights?
Our experienced guides are often willing (together with just a few true Aurora enthusiasts in Rovaniemi) to drive even hundreds of kilometres to find clear skies somewhere else. Our course, if we have a solid chance to see Auroras there. This week some of our Aurora Hunting tours ended up in Sweden, Kittilä, Saariselkä and other northern parts of Lapland. Sometimes literally in the middle of nowhere!
We are fully aware of the fact that not all of our tours are successful and some of the travellers are not satisfied that they came to Finnish Lapland to see the Northern Lights and were not lucky at all. Thanks to our focus on small groups with a maximum of 8 people, we are as flexible as possible. That’s why our tours are sometimes longer than they were originally supposed to be.
We always try to be honest with our guests in terms of real chances of observing the Northern Lights. At the same time, our team is passionate about making the best effort to provide our guests with a great Arctic experience (sometimes even without the Northern Lights).
