Finding Northern Lights was very easy. We had the perfect conditions : clear sky, cold temperatures and a strong solar activity!
We did not need to explore many places to find a clear sky. As soon as we got out of Rovaniemi, the stars were sparkling all above our head. We then headed to some of our favourite places that offer a dark and wide open view to the North, and we waited for them.
The auroras were shy, and did not show up during the first two hours. But we all knew that driving to some other locations would be a mistake as the sky was still very clear as crystal. There was no need to jump back in the van and miss the potential show…
And we were right! The Northern Lights came a bit late but as soon as they arrived, they started their fabulous green ballet in the sky. The long stripes of the auroras kept dancing for us for a few hours, drawing unusual curves on the dark screen of the sky. We even stayed a bit longer, just to enjoy this fabulous experience.
What a night!
