24 – 29 September 2020: An exceptional week in theRovaniemi sky!

Early autumn is usually an excellent period to spot the Aurora Borealis from Rovaniemi! The sky is commonly clear and the solar activity very promising. Sometimes, the sun even brings us some great surprises! Over the last five days, geomagnetic storms (up to G2!) have hit our dear planet, creating fantastic shows in the arctic sky!

This is certainly an exceptional event, which happens only a few times in a year. During those nights, the Northern Lights were so bright that they could be easily seen from Rovaniemi city centre, despite the light pollution. The gracious movements and sudden changes of intensity could also be visible through the clouds, on the nights that the sky was covered.

Arktikum Northern Lights

The Northern Lights were visible from the Arktikum, through the cloudy sky!
