Enjoy the magic of the Northern Lights during this private Arctic expedition with guaranteed sightings! Your personal Aurora guide will take you to explore the wilderness and hunt for the most beautiful natural phenomenon!
Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Adventure by Wild About Lapland is designed to maximise your chances to see the magical Aurora Borealis during your stay in Rovaniemi and experience a true night expedition. After we have collected and properly dressed our guests with professional winter overalls and boots (temperature can drop to -30°C!), your Aurora guide will drive you far away from Rovaniemi, straight out to the wilderness to start hunting for the Northern Lights.
During the day, we always check the weather forecasts and the solar activity reports. This way, we can adapt the start of the tour to get the best chance to enjoy the clearer sky and observe the Northern Lights. If the conditions are not favourable anywhere in Lapland, we will cancel the tour and issue a full refund for you. Based on the analysis of the meteorological situation and our experience, we will drive to locations that are more promising and would offer a better chance to see this natural phenomenon.
For example, if the forecasts and Aurora predictions are not promising around the Rovaniemi area, your guide may take you up to 350 kilometres away to get a better sky – sometimes we can end up even in Sweden or Norway! Please note that your tour can start even in the later afternoon to be able to drive to selected locations!
We always check the evolution of the weather conditions during the tour, and you may decide together to jump back in the minivan and get to another location if you feel so. As this excursion is a 7-hour Aurora hunt, you will get the chance to visit several different locations.
This adventure will also offer you the unique opportunity to drive long distances through the Lappish wilderness and explore Arctic nature. You may embark with your guide on different routes that will always lead you to fantastic scenery. You may end up in the middle of nowhere, where you can enjoy the silence on a lake beach, an open hill-top or a snow covered forest. Hopefully, with Auroras dancing over your heads!
Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, so unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we may not always be able to observe them. In such cases, you will receive a 50% refund to cover the fuel and equipment costs of the tour.
Focusing on pure Northern Lights hunting, during the tour, we will provide you just with some hot drinks and light refreshments during short stops to keep your energy level sufficient and reduce the time spent somewhere around the fire.
On all our excursions, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions.
Furthermore, when it comes to the Northern Lights, chances to observe them properly are increased when groups (and light pollution emitted by torches, phones, and cameras) are reduced. As we usually say – the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!
The Northern Lights are a natural occurrence, which activity, vibrancy of color cannot be guaranteed on the evening of the tour.
Not recommended for participants with heart complaints or other serious medical conditions. A small amount of walking in the cold may be involved. The tour operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Cold weather clothing and boots can be provided if needed. A maximum of 8 people per booking.
Hotel pick-ups commence 10 – 60 minutes prior to the start time. Your pick up time will be confirmed by email.
Please note that the departure time mentioned on your ticket is for information only. We will confirm the departure time (and the pick-up/meeting time) in the morning by email. Every morning, we examine the latest weather reports and the Aurora forecasts, we assess the chance and make the plan accordingly. We may then adapt the start time to the weather conditions in order to increase our chance to observe the Northern Lights. Please check your emails (and the SPAM folder!) so that you do not miss the information about weather conditions and pick up time.
